Blog Assignment #3

In Hemingway's "A clean, well-lighted place", there is the setting of a cafe. In the cafe, there sits an old man who seeks his refuge there day in and day out. There are also two waiters who are very talkative. There talk seems to be very symbolic, and life-searching. The old waiter does not want to close up because there might be someone who needs the place. My personal place of safety is in my uncle's church. My uncle is an ordained pastor of a church in Brooklyn. I usually go to this place instead of hanging out with people who I normally would. I do this because I believe that there should be a sense of abstaining from certain activities from day to day. As we all know church should and is a place of safety for a number of folks. Certain activities one might abstain from are drinking, gambling, trespassing, and any other foolish activity in which an individual might consider doing.
The way a person feels in church is direct. They can either feel like they are receiving from god or are just there to be there. In a way i feel both. However, it is more of a familial atmosphere since I know the priest and his members. This place is definitely similar to the well-lighted place in the story in that it is a haven. Although each decor is completely the opposite, a haven is a haven nonetheless. An old man can come to either place and find it worthy of himself.
